JUNE 7th - So, I've been in L.A. for over five months now. I've made some new friends, especially my roommates Jason and Carrie. I get to see my family living here about every week or two, and I still get to hang out with Texas Exes at events every once in a while. I am starting to make some good friends at Improv class at the Next Stage Theatre on Monday nights. Brett has been a real buddy to me, and he treats me like a little brother (i.e. pays for bowling). Speaking of brothers, Scott came and stayed with me for a few days, and we drove down to San Diego. My parents also came into town for a little bit and bought me lots of food. Grama came into town for a week and tortured me as always (though I enjoy it). I have also made some friends doing background work (like Roy, Athena, and Christina). In addition, I had a chance to take a two week vacation back to Texas to see my friends and family. It's good to watch Naruto with Ivan, play Halo with Andrew, eat Katz's with Angie, and chat with John Eric. I would have liked to spend more time in Texas, but I have work to do (hopefully). Speaking of work...
Like I said, I've been doing a bunch of background work. My first paid gig here in LA was as an audience member for the World Poker Tour. I met the aforementioned friends there and had some fun. I even saw Jesus! Chris "Jesus" Ferguson that is. I have also appeared on Judging Amy, Scrubs, Jack&Bobby, Alias, Gilmore Girls, The West Wing, and possible upcoming pilots Windfall and The Reunion. I've made a small stack of money doing this and met amazing people. Jennifer Garner was very nice while I talked to her. It seems around the same time I met her was when she conceived her new baby... hmmm... what a coincidence... I also met Alexis Bladel (the girl with the blue eyes in Sin City), Wil Estes (American Dreams), the girl from Chronicles of Riddick, the main character girl from Not Another Teen Movie, Amanda Righetti (look her up on the internet - fucking hot! I mean, WOW. Even better in person. But not very nice to extras), and a ton of other great people. Extra background work can be fun when it's a short day and you get fed well (like on Windfall), but there are some days you'd much rather be sleeping. For Jack&Bobby, I had two days of near-hell. I had to be 40 miles from here at 11:30pm and stayed until 6:30am (yeah coming home tired in LA traffic!). Then I had to be back there at 4:30pm the next day and stayed until 5:30a. Oh, did I forget to mention that it was 25 degrees outside? Oh, did I forget to mention that I was wearing a suit the entire time (ie. dress shoes), had to stand 95% of the time, and got fed very little. I'm not complaining though because I made about $300 those two nights. I will eventually put some clips up of me in some of these shows when Jason gets the DVD burner working properly.
I was also in a show on stage in Hollywood, called "The Big Audition." If you've ever seen Tony&Tina's Wedding, the premise is similar but instead of a wedding it's an audition. I got all my family members up on stage, and I'm still debating whether my dad or my brother or Joanna was the bigger ham. It was fun. I've also done a student film for the New York Film Academy. "Infest" should be up on the site soon. My roommate Jason is producer/director/actor for his project "InformNation" which is a series of shorts about various subjects. We've taped three so far, and more are on the way. The link for the videos is up in the "REEL" section already. They are quite funny.
Upcoming stuff - I may write/direct/act a couple of sketch shows coming up soon. I will keep ya'll updated on that (he says confidently). I may also be on the "reality" dating shows Blind Date and/or MTV Next. I'm doing it for the money, so quit your bitching. Also, if anyone lives in the LA area and wants to be on either show, just email me.
Okay, so now everything else going on. I have been hooked by Myspace.com. It's a stupid personal webpage thingy where you connect to other people. I hate these things, but slowly I've found that I know a lot of people on the network. I have begun connecting to friends I haven't talked to in 10 years. Also, I can search for people - for instance, girls 21-24 living within 5 miles of me who graduated from Texas. Pretty nifty if you ask me.
Here's my profile
I've had some ups and downs, but all in all I'm happy here. I am confident that my career is picking up and will get better, and I am also confident that I will forge even more lasting friendships out here. I'm meeting people through work, through theatre, through websites, through video games, and through other people. It's an internet of people! So until I get off my ass and start updating my site again, ta ta for now!
Oh yeah, Kasp3r/Justin was begging me to give him a shout out. Hello fellow -={TP}=- member!
