Ironic Prayer

“God, please guide me on my path”

But,

What if in order for that to happen

Sacrifices must be made,

Tragedies must occur?

What if those bad things

Are what guide you?

Would it be worth the sacrifice?

Sometimes in order for something

Beautiful to bloom,

A rotten, foul putrescence must first

Stain the path.

Like the phoenix,

Rising from the ashes,

One must survive and overcome adversity.

God teaches us that faith,

Like Job,

Will hold us steadfast through hard times.

But didn’t Job lose his first family?

Were their deaths part of God’s guidance for Job?

Perhaps bittersweet Faith

Has more of an ironic twist sense of humor

Than we’d care for.
